What is Speech Therapy??

Speech therapy focuses on: Communication, articulation (speech sounds), receptive, expressive and pragmatic language. If you or your child/loved one are experiencing difficulties with communicating wants and needs, advocating for yourself, playing/interacting with others, understanding what is being said to you, following directions, or speaking with clarity, speech therapy might be for you!

Therapy includes and is not limited to:

  • Consulting with the family, and/or medical team, teachers and other individuals involved in your care

  • Utilizing formal and informal evaluation styles to assess strengths and weaknesses

  • Establishing functional and individualized goals and treatment

Pediatric Therapy (birth- 21 years)

Therapy is designed to be supportive, encouraging, functional and most importantly FUN! We design sessions to be child-centered and play-based so that your child is unaware that they are “working”. Our mission is to establish rapport and encourage confidence by providing the necessary tools to reach their goals.

Our team is well versed in:

  • Play Therapy

  • AAC devices

  • PECS and other visual supports

  • Talk Tools

  • Sensory tools, activities and integration

  • Feeding therapy

  • PROMPT techniques

  • Floor time

  • ABA Therapy techniques (if this is a technique that you and your family are interested in- or if you are receiving ABA therapy in the home)

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to learn more about how therapy is conducted as well as any of the above-mentioned therapeutic techniques.

Therapy for an adult/Loved one

We start by collecting a thorough medical history, and evaluate speech and language through functional and cognitive assessments. If feeding/swallowing is also a concern, we will collaborate with the appropriate medical professionals and conduct a simple bedside swallow evaluation in order to assess the basic swallowing function. Should a more thorough evaluation need to be conducted we will refer to the appropriate medical professionals.

Our team is well-versed in:

  • AAC devices

  • Bedside swallow evaluations

  • Cognitive evaluations and treatment interventions

  • Collaboration with the entire medical team
